Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship between serum C-reactive protein(CRP) and the severity and stability of the diseased coronary artery. Methods Of 193 patients undergone coronary angiography, 61 patients with no evidence of coronary artery stenosis were set as control group, 132 patients with angiographically proven coronary heart disease(CHD) were set as case group. The extent and severity scale of coronary artery stenosis was quantitatively assessed according to coronary angiography by Gensini score (GS). The differences of serum CRP of each group were compared; the relationship between CRP and severity of coronary artery disease was analyzed. Results CRP of CHD group was significant higher than the control group(p0.01), so did ACS group to SAP group(p0.01) and control group(p0.01), but there had no significant difference between the SAP group and control group(p0.05); CRP had a significant association with GS in CHD group(r=0.34,p0.001), which independent of age, total cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TC/HDL-C) ratio, body mass index and smoking index (partial r=0.30,p0.01); multiple stepwise regression analysis indicated that CRP and TC/HDL ratio had significant influence to GS in CHD group (both p0.001), the CRP was significant higher in double diseased coronary artery group than the single diseased coronary artery group (p0.05), so did the three to single (p0.05), but there was no significance difference between three and double (p0.05). Conclusion CRP was an important predict of CHD, which closely associated with the severity and stability of coronary artery disease too.
