Abstract
For type selection of beeline bus stop, the influences of virtual-bay bus stop(i.e.,a bus stop with reverse harbor on line) and common beeline bus stop on traffic flow was compared according to the investigation data from a bus stop in Nanjing in terms of the influential factors such as traffic load, bus dwell time, and bus arrival rate at the stop. Then,an overall traffic flow speed model was established under the influence of a virtual-bay bus stop along side divider. This model can be used to calculate the delay of traffic at the bus stop, which, together with the traffic capacity, can be used to optimize the selection of beeline bus stop types.Calculation results based on this model show that for single lane roads,virtual-bay bus stop works better;for two-lane roads, type selection needs to be made according to multiple traffic factors such as traffic load;and for three-lane roads, given the average dwell time of buses shorter than 1 min, common beeline stop wins.
