Abstract
The period of the Wei, the Jin, the Northern and Southern Dynasties is an age of self-consciousness for literature with its independence and value in the domain of social ideology. This transitional period helped clarify the literary concept and promote its autonomy. The literary theory of the Wei and the Jin Dynasties reveals its theoretical transition. The works of Cao Pi, Lu Ji, Ruan Ji, Ji Kang, Zhi Yu, Li Chong and Ge Hong, which center either on literary criticism, literary creation or music theory, have their own ideas and epochal traits. The study of the development of the literary theory in this period will have great significance to a better understanding of the general trend of the literary theory in ancient China
