Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between parameters and obtained from magnetic resonance perfusion weighted imaging (MR PWI) of benign and malignant soft tissue tumors, illustrate the clinical significance of each MR perfusion parameter in discriminating benign tumors from malignant ones. Methods Twenty-seven patients underwent MR PWI and GRE-EPI-T2 *WI technique was used, we consider the most obvious T1WI enhancement of tumors as region of interest to obtain blood volume (BV), mean transit time (MTT), and maximal slope descending (MSD), maximal slope increasing (MSI) from time-intensity curve (TIC). SPSS (ver 10.0) software was used to analyze all parameters of benign and malignant soft tissue tumors. Results There was significant difference between benign and malignant tumors of BV, BF and MSD ( P 0.05),but no significant difference could be found between MTT and MSI ( P 0.05). Conclusion BV, BF and MSD of malignant tumors are higher than those of benign ones becease of plenty of microvessels and higher blood flow perfusion in malignant tumors than in benign ones. This is helpful in distinguishing malignant tumors from benign ones.
