Application of Neuronavigation System to Microsurgical Treatment for Intracranial Lesions

Abstract

Objective: To operate with minimal invasion is what neurosurgeons have been seeking for long time. Neuronavigation system aided by computer is one of the powerful tools that help to finish operation more precisely. The application of neuronavigation system to the treatment of intracranial lesions was to be evaluated. Methods: Twenty eight cases with intracranial lesions were scanned (CT or MRI) with slice thickness of 3 mm preoperatively. Operation planning,skin incision design,identification of lesions and surrounding critical structures were all done under the direction of navigation station. Results: All cases were targeted precisely. Among them,total resections were achieved in 23 cases,subtotal resection in 2 cases,and part resection in 3 cases. There was no neurological deficit upon discharge. Conclusion: Microsurgery aided by neuronavigation system can be performed precisely with maximal preservation of neurological function.
