Abstract

Objective To study the expression of VEGF,mdm2 and p53 proteins and their relationships in patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods VEGF,mdm2 and p53 proteins were detected by immunohistochemical technique with S-P or SAP,and the tissue microvascular density (MVD) was measused in 72 cases of HCC and 10 normal controls. Results The positive rates of VEGF, mdm2 and p53 proteins in HCC tissues were 62.5%(45/72),41.6%(30/72) and 33.3%(24/72),respectively. Expression of VEGF was positively correlated with expression of p53 (P0.05) and mdm2 (P0.05).The frequencies of VEGF,mdm2 and p53 protein positivity in corresponding paracancerous tissues were 20.0%(5/25),8.0% (2/25) and 8.0%(2/25),respectively.There was a significant difference in VEGF,mdm2 and p53 protein expression between HCC and paracancerous tissues(P0.05). Expression of VEGF, mdm2 and p53 was not detected in normal hepatic tissue.Expression of VEGF,mdm2 and p53 and higher MVD showed a significantly postitive correlation with vascular invasion and metastasis. Conclusion There is a high expression rate of VEGF,mdm2 and p53 proteins in HCC. The expression of VEGF,mdm2 and p53 protein is related to vascular invasion and metastasis in HCC.
