Expression and significance of gene survivin in breast carcinoma

Objective Aim To investigate the expression of survivingene inbreast carcinoma andstudy its clinical significance.Methods The expression of survivin were detected by immunohistochemistry SP method in 43 cases of breast carcinoma,12 of adjacent normal breast tissue.Results 62.8 percent(27 of 43) of cases had expression of survivin in the tumor cells,and 0 percent(0 of 12) of cases of the normal tissue it were present.There was a significant positive correlation between breast carcinoma specimens and normal tissue specimens(P0.01).Tumors with lymph node metastases(75.0%) had high survivin protein expression than those without metastasis(46.2%)(P0.05).The survivin expression between Ⅰ+Ⅱand Ⅲ+Ⅳ stage,the difference was significant(50.0% νs70.4%)(P0.05).Conclusion Survivin gene play an important role in the occurrence and development of breast carcinoma.It is suggested that survivin can be a useful marker for predicting invasion and metastasis ability of breast carcinoma.
