Relation of vascular endothelial growth factor's serum level with differenciation and prognosis in gastric carcinoma

Abstract

Objective:To determine the serum vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)level in patients with gastric carcinoma and elucidate the relation of its levels with the differenciation and prognosis in gastric carcinoma.Methods :Sixty-six patients with gastric carcinoma and20healthy control subjects were included in this study.The serum VEGF level was measured with the methods of ELISA.Results:The serum VEGF level in gastric carcinoma patients was significantly higher than that of health controls(P0.001).The serum VEGF level in the groups of stageⅢ-Ⅳwas significantly higher than that of stageⅠ-Ⅱgroups(P0.001).The serum VEGF level in patients with metastasis was significantly higher than that in patients without metastasis(P0.001).Conclusion:VEGF plays an important role in the growth and prognosis of gastric carcinoma.
