Abstract
According to gear meshing theory and contact mechanics,the contact stresses at different mesh points in the involute gear meshing process have been studied.Meanwhile the positions of maximum contact stresses appeared in gears with different parameters have been researched.The contact stress formulated in the national standard(GB/T 3480-1997)are analyzed,so the limit of the formula of the standard is pointed out and the method to ascertain and calculate the maximum contact stress is offered.A calculation program on gear contact strength is developed with the help of Visual Basic language and the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 software,which provides a fast way to calculate the geometric parameters and contact stress of gear and to check contact strength of gear,thus the efficiency of the gear design is improved greatly.
