Abstract

The detailed calculation and analysis have been performed on the external meshing process of involute spur cylindrical gear pairs in the light of Herz formulae and gear meshing principle. Analysis results state that the related contact stress calculations in National Standards (GB) have the limitation. In this paper, the location of the maximum contact stresses of involute spur cylindrical gears in the meshing process has been confirmed firstly and definitely and is validated by finite element analysis. These analysis data offer a guide to the optimal design of involute spur cylindrical gear pairs.
