Clinical Analysis of 265 Measles Cases in Dongguan Areas

Abstract

Objective To study the epidemiology, clinical and laboratory features of patients with measles from Dongguan area in recent 3 years aiming to search methods of the prevention and therapy for the disease. Methods Clinical data was collected and retrospectively analyzed in 265 cases with measles admitted to hospital from June 2003 to January 2006. Results Age of patients with measles ranged from 4 month to 48 years. The incidence rate of measles was the highest in the infant and children between 6 months to 3 years old, which accounted for 56.2 percent. The rate of the measles inoculations in the infant and children was higher in the city than in countryside and newcomer from other province. All the patients had fever; with temperature ranging from 38℃ to 39℃. The measles of the adults appeared atypically, and had more complications, with diarrhea as the commonest. The positive rate of measles IgM test was 86.4%. Conclusion Infants and children have highest occurrence rate of measles in the population, especially after close contact with patients of measles in the spring and the summer. For prevention, it is important to vaccinate infants and the children living at the countryside and newcomer from other province.
