Cognitive Linguistics provides a new perspective for the study of metonymy.Metonymy is not just a figure of speech;it is also viewed as a conceptual phenomenon and a cognitive process.In recent years the definition and classification of metonymy,the relationship between metonymy and metaphor and the relationship between metonymy and grammatical structure have become the hot issues in the field of metonymy studies.A brief outline of the recent studies will be of great significance to the future research orientation.
