Abstract
ObjectivesTo study the expressions of extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN), matrix metalloproteinase 1(MMP 1) and 9(MMP 9) in the colorectal cancer tissues as well as explore their mutual relations and clinicopathological significances.MethodsEMMPRIN, MMP 1 and MMP 9 in 45 cases with colorectal cancer were assayed on the 10% formalin fixed and routinely paraffin embedded sections of surgical resected specimen .by immunohistochemical method of avidin biotin complex.ResultsThe positive rates of EMMPRIN, MMP 1 and MMP 9 expressions were 55.6%, 60.0 % and 57.8%, respectively. The positive rates of EMMPRIN, MMP 1 and MMP 9 in patients showing well differentiation, tumor cells invaded superficial layer, Dukes stage A~B and without metastasis of lymph nodes were significantly lower than those in patients showing poor differentiation, tumor cells invaded serous membrane or out layer, Dukes stage C~D and with metastasis of lymph nodes. Highly close positive correlations were found among the expression of EMMPRIN, MMP 1 and MMP 9 expressions.ConclusionThe expressions of EMMPRIN, MMP 1 and MMP 9 are important biological markers for reflecting the progression and prognosis of colorectal cancer. They may exert mutual effects and co regulate on the potentials of invasion and metastasis in colorectal cancer.
