Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of telmisartan on plasma soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1(sICAM-1) and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1(sVCAM-1) level in patients with early diabetic nephropathy(DN).Methods A total of 78 patients with early DN were randomly divided into treatment group(n=40) and control group(n=38).Patients in treatment group were administered telmisartan 80 mg once daily for 5 weeks on the basis of original therapeutic regimen for diabetes. The level of sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 in each group were detected. Results The level of sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 were significantly lower in treatment group than that in control group(P0.05).Conclusion Telmisartan may depress the express of sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1,and that may be one of the mechanisms for delaying the progress of early DN by telmisartan.
