Abstract
Geogrid,a new kind of geosynthetics,is chosen as the main material for embankment reinforcement due to its high strength and low prolongation ratio. The analysis of vertical settlement and lateral deformation of the embankment with the conventional nonlinear finite element program ABAQUS before and after reinforcement by geogrid shows that the adoption of geogrid can effectively reduce the vertical settlement and lateral deformation of the embankment. The research result is of certain reference value to reinforcement of soft clay foundation.
