Abstract

Objective:Analyzing characteristics of digital radiography in neonates with pneumothorax,so as to improve recognition of this disease. Methods:Supine anteroposterior chest film was taken in 34 neonates with pneumothorax,of which additional supine lateral chest film with horizontal projection was simultaneously carried out in 25.Radiographic follow-ups were made in 30 cases one or more than one times. The imaging findings were retrospectively analyzed. Results:Of the total 34 cases, medial pneumothorax was found in 13,anterior pneumothorax in 19 and lateral pneumothorax in 2,and 8 cases were accompanied with pneumomediastinum. Conclusion: Radiographic characteristics of pneumothorax in neonates are different from the older, children and adults. The pneumothorax is mainly located in the anterior or medial area of the thorax, and commonly accompanied with pneumomediastinum.Chest film of neonates in supine position would be helpful to diagnose the pneumothorax.
