Abstract

Objective To explore the change of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in human uterine neoplasms and the nearby normal cells of uterine smooth muscle cells and its relationship with receptors of estrogen and progesterone. Methods Totally 30 patients with uterine neoplasms were enrolled in this study.Tissues obtained from them were divided into three groups:group S:tissues with the neoplasms surgically resected;group A:muscle tissue around the uterine fibroids;and group B:normal smooth muscle tissue 5-cm away from uterine fibroids. The expressions of estrogen receptor (ER),progesterone receptor (PR),and EGFR were detected by immunohistochemical streptavidin-biotin complex (SABC) methods. The images were analyzed. Results The positive expression rates of ER and EGFR were significantly different among three groups (P0.01),while the expression of PR has no statistical significance (P0.05).The positive expression rates of ER and EGFR in the uterine tissues of group S were significantly different between proliferative phase and secretory phase (P0.05).Conclusion The growth of uterine leiomyoma is associated with the enhanced expression of ER and EGFR.
