Abstract

Objective: To summarize the experience in the management of acute ureteral obstruction due to uric acid stones Methods:Seventy six patients were divided into renal colic group ( n =46) and acute renal failure group ( n =30) In renal colic group,20 patients received the combination of conservative treatment and retrograde catheterization and drainage (RCD),and the others undertook emergency RCD All cases in acute renal failure group were treated with emergency RCD After 3 5 days of drainage,12 5 g/L of sodium bicarbonate had been perfused through ureteral catheter for 3 5 days Results:In renal colic group,there was no difference in the therapeutic efficacy between the combination of conservative treatment and RCD and emergency RCD ( P 0 05) In acute renal failure group,the serum level of creatinine markedly decreased after drainage( P 0 01) Conclusion:The patients with renal colic can be first managed conservatively,and those with inefficacy then receive RCD Emergency RCD is the treatment of choice for acute renal failure
