Abstract
Aim: To study the expression of Survivin in ovarian carcinoma tissues and its clinical significance. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the expression of Survivin and PCNA protein in 38 cases of ovarian carcinoma and 12 cases of benign ovarian tumors. The expression of Survivin mRNA was measured by in situ hybridization. Results: The positive expression rates of Survivin mRNA and protein in ovarian carcinoma were 81.58%(31/38)and 68.42%(26/38), respectively, which were higher than those of benign tumor 33.33%(4/12), 25.00%(3/12) ,respectively. Labeling indexes of PCNA in ovarian carcinoma tissues with positive expression of Survivin was significantly higher than that with negative expression of Survivin. The expression of Survivin was associated with clinical stage, histological grades, lymph node metastasis, and ascites, except for histological classification. Conclusion:Survivin protein and mRNA are strongly expressed in ovarian carcinoma and are closed associated with cell proliferation. Survivin may serve as an important predicting prognosis factor and target of therapy.
