Abstract

Objective To investigate the association of the T786C polymorphism of the endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS) gene with essential hypertension(EH) in the Han population in Xinjiang.Methods Based on the case-control study,346 patients with essential hypertension(EH group) and 385 healthy people(NT group) in Han Chinese population were selected from the Boertonggu countryside of Shawan region in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China by random cluster sampling.After questionnaire and physical examination,blood samples were collected,the T786C polymorphisms of eNOS gene were detected with SNaPshot system.Genotypic frequency and allele frequency were calculated and compared.Results The frequencies of TT,TC and CC genotypes of eNOS gene were 80.3%,18.5% and 1.2% in EH group respectively and 79.2%,19.7%,1.0% in NT group respectively(P0.05).The frequencies of T and C were 89.6% and 10.4% in EH group and 89.1% and 10.9% in NT group(P0.05).Conclusion The polymorphism of eNOS gene T786C may not be associated with essential hypertension in the Han population in Xinjiang.
