Abstract

By way of text analysis, the present paper aims to unveil the true connotation of Dao,that is nature(Zi Ran Zhi Dao Ye),the critical proposition of Liuxie. The way Liu observes goes from Text of Tian-Di(i.e.Text of Dao),to Text of Human(i.e.Text of Change) and Text of the Six Classics(i.e.Text of the Saints).Implicitly, his argument advances from Dao in the Broadest(i.e.Laozi's Dao),Dao in Change,to Dao in the Narrowest(i.e.the Confucian Dao). These two clues convolves around the topic sentence: Dao infuses into Saints and emerges as Text, and the Saints see Dao in Text.Tentatively,we come to the conclusion that,in terms of the argument,Liu begins from Laozi's Dao,then goes through the Dao in Change, and finally, fuses with Confucian Dao.Liu's Dao is featured by the complementation of Confucianism and Taoism,or the dialectics of Yin and Yang.
