It is not only the different understanding but also the ignorance of the abundant meanings of Dao in Yuan Dao that exist in discussion on Dao by previous scholars.Liu Xie studied both literature's origin and Dao's development.Yuan Dao's deep intent is the literature's origin,not Dao's.Dao as mentioned in the beginning of Yuan Dao is about the origin of the universe,its mid-part is about Dao of Taoism,and the last part is about Dao of Confucianism.Using the rich meaning of Dao,Liu Xie intended to get the very origin of literature in order to rectify the incorrect pursuit of literary at his time.
