Comparison of Dietary Behavior Among Middle School Students in Beijing and Cities of Hebei

Abstract

Objective To learn status and differences of dietary behavior between middle school students in Beijing and Hebei in 2005,and to provide basis for dietary interventions.Methods An anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted among 18 259 middle school students in Beijing and Hebei by using Chinese Adolescent Health Related Behavior Questionnaire.Results Report rates of unhealthy behavior such as drinking a lot of soft drinks,eating desserts and snacks of Beijing students were higher than Hebei students,but their healthy behavior report rate such as eating breakfast every day,drinking milk usually was also higher than Hebei students.Incidence of unhealthy and healthy dietary behaviors was high among students whose mothers' education level was high.In Hebei,there were more unhealthy dietary behaviors among junior school students.In Beijing,there was no difference between junior school students and high school students about dietary behaviors.Conclusion The students' unhealthy dietary behaviors may increase as the developing of social economy.Related measures should be established according to students' character and publicity of health dietary should be strengthened.
