Expressions of Cell Cycle-related Proteins P16, P27 and Invasiveness in Pituitary Adenoma

Abstract

Aim:To study the relationship between the protein expressions of proliferation cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), P16, P27 and invasiveness of pituitary adenomas, and to offer the experiment baisis on effecting radical cure of pituitary adenomas. Methods:The expressions of proteins from 43 invasive pituitary adenomas and 37 non-invasive adenomas were examined by immunohistochemical S-P method. The correlation of the abnormal expression of proteins P16, P27 and the PCNA was analyzed in pituitary adenomas. Results: The expressions of protein P16, P27 in invasive pituitary adenomas group were significantly lower than that of non-invasive group. There was no significant difference in the expression of protein P16 in recurring and non-recurring groups. The expressions of protein P27 in recurring pituitary adenomas group were significantly lower than that of non-recurring group.The results indicate there may be some relationship among the expressions of P16, P27 and PCNA in pituitary adenomas Conclusion:The abnormal protein expressions of P16 and P27 were related to invasion of the PCNA in pituitary adenomas,which can be taken as indicators to evaluate the tumor invasive potential and prognosis.
