Abstract

42CrMoA steel connecting rod of a diesel engine fractured during performing fatigue test. The fracture surface was observed by OM and SEM.The results show that the double-source fatigue fracture is the failure way of the connecting rod.The appearance of the decarburization layer on the connecting rod surface is main reason for the fatigue fracture.
