The Folkway "Myth" and the Metropolitan "Legend": A comparison between SHEN Cong-wen and ZHANG Ai-ling

Abstract
SHEN Cong-wen's depiction of the West rural lives of Xiangxi province and ZHANG Ai-ling's presentation of the ordinary Shang hai people's life have shown that they are writers with the aesthetic modernity, that their individualistic views of literature distinguish themselves from the historical narrative, that their peculiar love world can be corresponded with the rural myth and the metropolitan legend respectively, which happily compensates the single-track thinking of the Chinese modern literature, of course, in its somewhate weaknesses.
