Abstract
This paper reported the esterification of chloroacetic acid with isopropyl alcohol catalyzed by neodymium trifluoroacetate. The effect of different factors, such as the reaction time, the amount of catalysts and the ratio of chloroacetic acid to isopropyl alcohol on the yield of isopropyl chloroacetate were carefully studied. The experimental results showed that the optimal reaction condition were as follows:When the amount of chloroacetic acid was 0.1 mol,the ratio of isopropyl alcohol to chloroacetic acid was 1.2,the amount of catalysts was 0.3 g,the amount of cyclohexane used as the dehydrating reagent was 8 mL.At a reaction time of 45 min,the yield of isopropyl chloroacetate reached 91.2%.
