Clinical effectiveness of combination therapy with Qianlieshutong capsule and doxazosin for benign prostatic hyperplasia

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of combination therapy with Qianlieshutong capsule and doxazosin for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.Methods 40 patients with BPH were devided randomly into two groups(20 patients in each gruop).Patients in the combination theray group used three Qianlieshutong capsule three times per day and doxazosin 4 mg per day for three months,and patients in the control group were treated with doxazosin 4 mg once daily for three months.The International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS),prostate volume,maximum urinary flow rate(Qmax),and residual urine volume(RUV) were assessed before and after the treatment.Results After three months,Combined therapy resulted in significantly greater improvements in IPSS and prostate volume than that of control group(P0.01).Between the two groups Qmax,residual urine volume was no significant difference(P0.05).Conclusion Combination therapy with Qianlieshutong capsule and doxazosin can improve the symptoms of BPH,reduce the volume of the prostate,increase the maximum urinary flow rate,and is more effective than either drug alone in patients with BPH.
