An Analysis of Marine Fishery Management System in Japan

Domestic researches have so far been focused on the basic system or some aspects of marine fishery management in Japan,with no in-depth analysis of the institutional history and features of Japanese marine fishery management.This research indicates that,though marine fishery management system has a long history of evolution in Japan,the core part of the system,e.g.the co-management institution,is unchanged.In the existing system,the government,the fishery cooperative association of different kinds,levels and sizes and fishermen as stakeholders work together.However,fishery coordination organizations are an integral part of Japanese marine fishery management.In other words,the marine fishery management system in Japan presents typical characteristics of co-management.All stakeholders perform their duties synergistically in support ing of the sustainable development of Japanese marine fishery.
