Abstract
The past study of Haohuo narration in Chinese classical novels usually adopted the method of using text to prove history and regarded it as a phenomenon of historical record.From the perspective of narratology,this paper studies it as a phenomenon of literary narration and explores its functions and significance to the textual construction.First,under the long influence of the concept of poisonous money,this narration easily provides numerous pictures of evils originating from gold;second,it effectively reveals the goodness and evil of human nature;third,huo usually leads to disaster and is regarded as which is one of the four greedy desires,or,a cause of trouble.The Chinese classical novels cleverly use this rhetorical relation and,following the wealth is the cause of disaster,provides a series of exciting stories with rich images that help form the plots,connection and the structure of these novels.
