HJ1.6mmExpression of CK19 mRNA and CEA mRNA in peritoneal cavity washes of patients with gastric carcinoma and its clinical significance

Objective To explore the effect of CK19 mRNA and CEA mRNA expressions in peritoneal cavity washes for gastric cancer.Methods Peritoneal irrigating solution or abdominal dropsy was collected from 67 patients with advanced gastric cancer and 8 patients with benign lesion on the stomach.Nested RT-PCR and cytopathological examination were used to determine the CK19 mRNA and CEA mRNA expressions.Meanwhile,the gastric cancer cell line SGC7901 served as a positive control.Results Positive expression of CK19 mRNA was found in 39 patients(58.2%),of CEA mRNA was in 36 patients(53.7%),and of CK19 mRNA and CEA mRNA was in 45 patients(67.2%) by nested RT-PCR.However,positive expression of both CK19 mRNA and CEA mRNA was found in 13 patients(19.4%) by cytopathological examination.There was a close correlation between CK19 mRNA and CEA mRNA expressions and pathology and TNM staging in gastric cancer patients.Conclusions Nested RT-PCR is a sensitive method for CK19 mRNA and CEA mRNA expression in gastric cancer,and it is promising as a valuable method for predicting celiac implantation metastasis in gastric cancer.
