Detection of the Cancer Cells by RT-PCR in Peripheral Blood of Patients with Gastric Cancer

Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of CK20 mRNA and CEA mRNA in peripheral blood of gastric cancer patients and its clinical significance.Methods The CK20 mRNA and CEA mRNA were detected by RT-PCR assay in peripheral blood samples from 52 patients with gastric cancer.Results The positive expression of CK20 mRNA and CEA mRNA were 42.3%(22/52) and 51.9%(27/52) respectively.Thirty-three(63.5%) blood samples had positive expression of one or both markers.The positive expression of CK20 mRNA correlated with distant metastasis.The positive expression of CEA mRNA,or CK20 mRNA,or both,closely related with pathological stage,lymph node metastases and distant metastasis(P0.05).Conclusion It indicates that the combined detection of CK20 mRNA and CEA mRNA by RT-PCR assay may be useful for detecting micrometastasis and prognosis of the patients with gastric cancer.
