Abstract
Organic modified bentonites with CTMAB as organic intercalated agents were prepared. Properties of modified bentonite were characterized by various analysis techniques and modified bentonites were applied to pretreatment of high strength landfill leachate with CODCr up to 20,000~37,000mg/L. Experiment results showed that removal efficiency of CODCr had reached 67% under the optimum conditions of modified bentonite amount 30g/L, pH 5, stirring time 40min and sedimentation time 30min. The pretreatment of high strength CODCr landfill leachate with organic modified bentonites will prevent excessive loads on the next biological treatment process.
