Trace elemental analysis in honey by octopole reaction system inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

Abstract

An analytical method for simultaneous determination of 18 trace elements in honey including Na,Mg,Al,K,Ca,Cr,Mn,Fe,Ni,Cu,Zn,As,Se,Mo,Cd,Ba,Hg and Pb by octopole reaction system inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ORS-ICP-MS) has been established.Samples were decomposed by HNO3 and H2O2 followed by dilution with ultrapure water then the above 18 trace elements in the solution was analyzed directly by ORS-ICP-MS.In the presented method,the ORS is used and hydrogengas gas or helium gas is introduced into ORS cell,and the interference of polyatomic ions was eliminated effectively.The optimum conditions for the determination was tested and discussed.The method was shown to be very sensitive with limits of quantification in the range of 1.05~73.45 ng/L for all investigated elements,the recovery of the samples was in the range of 92.2%~106.8% and the relative standard deviation(RSD) less than 2.73%.
