A Comparison Study on the Manufacturing Industry Efficiency of Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta—The Interpretation Based on Dynamic Competition

The paper measures the comprehensive technical efficiency,pure technical efficiency,scale efficiency and other changing tendency of manufacturing industry of Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta from 2001 to 2007 by using data envelopment analysis(DEA).The author finds out that the manufacturing industry efficiency of Yangtze River Delta is on the whole higher than Pearl River Delta;the efficiency of the traditional light manufacturing and resource processing heavy industry in Yangtze River Delta have obvious advantages,while the efficiency of the electronic light industry in Pearl River Delta has obvious advantage;and technical progress of Yangtze River Delta is faster than that of Pearl River Delta.From the perspective of dynamic competition,industries with similar efficiency advantages in two regions are easier to form multipoint competition,and industries with great different efficiency often have attack and response.The author suggests governments of the two regions to a build communication mechanism,and guide industries of the two regions to compete harmoniously;industries of Pearl River Delta should improve its self-innovative ability and its advantage in industrial value chain,while Yangtze River Delta should strengthen the integration of the manufacturing industries within the region.
