Regional devascularization in treatment of portal hypertension

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of regional devascularization for portal hypertension.Methods One hundred and eight patients with portal hypertension underwent surgical treatment from January 2006 to December 2011,among them 40 patients received regional devasculization and 68 patients received periesophagogastric devascularization.The results were retrospectively analyzed.Results The free portal pressure(FPP),length of stay,intraoperative bleeding,infection rate,incidence of portal thrombosis and hepatic encephalopathy,the rates of rebleeding and fatality within 1 and 2 years were lower,and the recovery of liver function was better in regional devascularization group than those in perisophagogastric devascularization group.Conclusion Regional devascularization is an effective surgical modality in treatment of portal hypertension with upper gastrointestinal bleeding,which may improve the prognosis of patients.
