Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of pencardial devascularization for esophageal and gastric varices by portal hypertension. Methods 105 patients with portal hypertension with esophageal and gastric varices treated with pencardial devascularization were retrospectively analyzed.Postoperative haemorrhagia and case fatality rate were observed between conventional operation group(74 cases) and prophylactic operation group(31 cases). The patients were followed-up period for 12 to 84 months. Results It was effective for Child A and Child B patients. There was no difference on postoperative haemorrhagia and case-fatality rate between conventional operation group and prophylactic operation group. Conclusion The pencardial devascularization appears to be effective for the control of variceal haemorrhage due to portal hypertension.Prophylactic surgery could not effectively prevent hemorrhage and improve prognosis.
