Abstract
Objective The study was to investigate the clinical and histopathological features of pencillium marneffei infection in patients with AIDS.Methods Two cases of penicillium marneffei in fections of lymph node and intestinal mucosa were investigated morphologically by bematoxylin-eosin (HE),periodic acid-Schiff(PAS) and Gomori's methenamine silver(GMS) staining and the related literatures were reviewed. Results Small yeast-form fungi were detected in tissue sections by HE staining and sausage-like structures and septum formations were demonstrated clearly by PAS and GMS staining. Conclusions Penicillium marneffei infection can be diagnosed histopathologically if its characteristic structures are observed in tissue sections with positive PAS and GMS staining.
