Abstract
Purpose To investigate the application of Doppler tissue imaging (DTI) in assessing left ventricular diastolic function in essential hypertension by measuring mitral annulus velocities. Methods The peak velocities of mitral annulus in 56 patients with essential hypertension and 50 normal controls were measured,and the correlation between DTI and conventional echocardiography measurements was analyzed. Results Compared with the controls,mitral annulus in patients with hypertension had lower peak velocity of the early diastolic wave ( Ve ) ( P 0.05),no change in peak velocity of the late diastolic wave ( Va ) and Ve/Va ratio decreased ( P 0.05).There was no difference in systolic mitral annulus velocity between two groups.There was a close relation between DTI Ve/Va and transmitral index E/A ratio ( P 0.01 ). Conclusion Mitral annular diastolic velocities parameters measured by DTI can be used in assessment of left ventricular diastolic function in essential hypertension.
