The Updated Number of Species of Birds in Sichuan

According to the taxonomic system of the book A Checklist on the Classification and Distribution of the Birds of the China(Zheng,2005),the number of bird species in Sichuan Province was recounted and some statistical analysis on the birds species was provided based on the previous studies and the new records in recent years.In total,there are 683 species,which belong to 80 families and 21 orders,represent 51.28% of the species,79.21% of the families and 87.50% of the orders of Chinese birds.Among them,17 and 80 species are of national first-grade and second-grade protected species,respectively.9 species are listed in the appendix of CITES(2007),and 62 species in the appendix Ⅱ.42 species are recorded in the red list of IUCN(2007).There are 37 species endemic to China,which represent 52.1% of the endemic species of birds in China.
