Statistical Studies on Economic Growth and Structural Change of Manufacturing in Shanghai

A strong manufacturing industry provides a basis for healthy development of the national economy.This paper explores the relationship between the changes of manufacturing structure and the changes of economic structure by employing the data from Shanghai Statistical Yearbook.This relationship reflects the changes within the economic structure when structural changes take place in the manufacturing sector.Through empirical analysis of how economic growth is influenced by the structural changes of the manufacturing industry in Shanghai,the paper also elaborates that the influence of the structural changes of the manufacturing industry on economic growth is similar to economic structure and that the changes of the leading industry and pillar industry of the manufacturing industry determines the changes of economic growth.The paper also puts forward policy suggestions on optimizing the structure of manufacturing industry.
