On the Check and Approval of Secret Memorials in the Ming Dynasty

Abstract

Secret memorials were confidential documents submitted by Ming subjects to the emperor. Check and approval of secret memorials is the course in which the secret memorials were submitted to imperial palace and were replied by the emperor. Compared with normal memorials, secret ones were characterized by high secrecy, quickness and nonstop to the emperor without registration in the cabinet. In Ming Dynasty, check and approval of secret memorials by the emperor had a formalized course, which was closely related to the political situation of Ming Dynasty.
