Abstract

Objective:The rate of cardiogenic sudden death in patients of diabetes mellitus is very high, while its early stage changes are usually functional disturbance owing to abnormality of heart autonomic neuromodulation.Heart rate variability(HRV)could reflect the characteristic of this functional disorder. The purpose of this study is to obtain the features of HRV of these patients by analyzing the standard deviation of normal RR intervals(SDNN).Methods:Clinical features and data of 24-hour dynamic electrocardiogram in 88 patients of diabetes mellitus complicating with hypertension were collected. The relationships between SDNN and age as well as course of disease were analyzed. Results:SDNN in these patients decreased markedly according to increase of age and course of disease. Conclusions:The rules of HRV in patients of diabetes mellitus complicating with hypertension were shown in this study, which could give some instruction to early diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in these patients.
