Experience of YU Ying'ao in the Treatment of Intractable Epilepsy

Experience of YU Ying' ao in the treatment of intractable epilepsy is introduced. The locations of epilepsy are brain,liver and spleen,and the pathogenesis is spleen,deficiency and accumulating phlegm,as well as liver qi stagnation,or hyperactivity of liver yang,so phlegm is brought up to the brain and blocking brain collaterals,hence occurs apraxia of the mind. As for the features,excess syndromes are more likely to be seen than deficiency syndromes and heat syndromes are more common than cold syndromes. Pathogenic factors are mainly phlegm and blood stasis. He proposed that treatments should be guided by syndrome and disease differentiation combined. Main treatment principle is suppressing exuberant yang to cease epilepsy,removing phlegm to unclog collaterals. Also Dianxian Cuxiao Decoction is used in practice.
