Analysis on Formula Granula Prescriptions of Traditional Chinese Medicine

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the outpatient prescriptions of the formula granula of traditional Chinese medicine in Beijing Xuanwu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine so as to improve rational drug use level.METHODS: The data collected from the outpatient prescriptions of the formula granula of traditional Chinese medicine in our hospital were analyzed statistically with regard to patients' gender,age,departments,consumption sum and percentage of drugs,drug varieties,frequency of occurrence and doses of drugs prescribed and the clinical diagnoses written in the prescriptions.RESULTS: The formula granula of traditional Chinese medicine were used more often in females than in males,in middle-aged or above group than by other age groups,and in Department of General Internal Medicine,Department of Respiratory Medicine,Department of Dermatology,Lienogastric Department and Expert Outpatient Service than in other departments.The number of the prescriptions and the drug consumption sum in Dec.2011 were on the high side.Totally 400 types of formula granula were used in our hospital and the top five were angelica sinensis,pericarpium citri reticulatae,scutellaria baicalensis,poria cocos,and paeoniae radix alba.Of the top 20 ranked by occurrence frequency,the proportion of the prescriptions with prescribing dose falling within the required scope in Chinese pharmacopoeia was 64.27% and the proportion of those with prescribing dose falling beyond the required scope stood at 35.24%.The proportion of non-standard clinic diagnosis stood at 17.6%.CONCLUSION: In our hospital,problems were noted in the doses of the formula granula prescriptions of traditional Chinese medicine,and the clinical diagnoses written in the prescriptions were also far from standard.To ensure patients' medication safety,it is necessary to strengthen monitoring on prescribing doses and inspection on clinical rational use of drugs meanwhile bringing pharmacists' role into full play.
