Abstract
Iso-amyl propionate was synthesized by the esterification of propanoic acid with iso-amyl alcohol using ammonium cerous sulfate as a catalyst. The effect of different factors, such as reaction time, the amount of catalyst and the ratio of iso-amyl alcohol to pripanoic acid on the yield of iso-amyl propionate were carefully studied. The experiment results showed that the esterification rate was 97.22% under the optimum reaction conditions.
