Abstract

Objective To study the clinical efficacy of non-invasive mechanical ventilation in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)with respiratory failure and evaluate the role of non-invasive ventilation in the treatment of severe respiratory failure. Methods From July 2008 to March 2010,78 patients with COPD and respiratory failure receiving trans-nasal-and-oral BIBAP respirator mask ventilation were retrospectively analyze, including the changes in PH,PaO2,PaCO2,RR(respiratory frequency),and HR(heart rate)after treatment. Results The non-invasive ventilation of 3-7d improved the consciousness of all the 78 patients to various extend, and pH value,PaO2,PaCO2,RR and HR had been also improved significantly(P0.05).Conclusion Non-invasive mechanical ventilation in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with respiratory failure was an effective modality, well tolerated by patients, reducing the risks of intubation and medical costs.
