Abstract
ObjectivesTo observe the effects of losartan or its combination with perindopril on left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH)and plasma fibrinogen(Fg) levels in senile patients with essential hypertension.MethodsSixty-two senile patients with essential hypertension showing LVH were randomly divided into two groups treated with losartan 50~100 mg/d or losartan 25~50 mg/d plus perindopril 2~4 mg/d for six months respectively. Left ventricular mass index(LVMI) and plasma fibrinogen levels were estimated before and after treatment.ResultsAs compared with data obtained before treatment, LVMI and plasma Fg levels were significantly decresed after treatment with losartan alone or losartan plus perindopril. Magnitude of decline in LVMI and Fg levels were more distinct in the latter group.ConclusionLosartan can significantly reverse LVH and decrease plasma Fg level. But losartan plus perindopril is more effective in both reversal efficacy.
