Abstract
Objective To evaluate efficacy of Telmisarten in the treatment of essential hypertension. Methods 132 patients with mild and moderate hypertension were randomly divided into Telmisarten 40mg/d and Lisinopril 10mg/d,which could be increased to 80mg/d and 20mg/d if blood pressure control was not satisfied. Results Both Telmisarten and lisinopril were effective at lowering blood pressure. 60.3% and 64.1% of patients in each group were considered to be effective at 2 weeks with no statistically significant differences between the two groups. Both drugs were well tolerated. 5.6% of the patients in lisinopril group had dry cough but not in Telmisarten group. Conclusion Telmisarten is effective and well-tolerated with less side effect in treatment of patients with essential hypertension.
