An Analysis and Study of Stalin’s Definition of Nationality and its Essence

Originating from particular theories in Western Europe, Stalin’s definition of nationality is no universal and does not apply in China’s situation. But it played an important and irreplaceable role in our identification of nationalities. It helped us to recognize the essence of nationality in the aspects of language, region, economy, and psychological quality — culture. Nationality is the tie or knot of cultural relations. The essence of nationality is in culture. Culture is hierarchical. The core and deep nature of the culture is the core and deep nature of a nationality.
